In 2004 and 2005 TAKH transported a total of 22 Przewalski's horses to Khomiin Tal, a buffer zone of Khar Us Nuur National Park in western Mongolia. The horses were released into a 14,000 ha enclosure as the start of an effort to recreate an autonomous population.

To achieve the re-establishement of a Przewalski's horse population, we are applying a "Landscape Approach", as recommended by the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) signed at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992. This approach involves considering a study site as a mosaic of ecosystems shaped by human activities. We therefore organised our activities according to the following components, which centre around management of the Przewalski's horses population.
